Detaching the steering rod from the rack (without amplifier)
1 - steering gear housing; 2 - rail; 3 - cap nut; 4 – steering draft
Fastening of a protective cover of the steering mechanism
1 - steering gear housing; 2 - clamp; 3 - special pincers; 4 - protective cover; 5 – steering draft
1. Remove the steering gear from the car (see subsection 8.4.2).
2. Clean the steering gear from dirt, especially in the places where the protective covers fit.
3. Remove outer 3 (see fig. Steering gear parts (steering without power steering)) and inner 5 clamps for attaching the protective cover.
4. Move the protective cover 4 away from the steering gear housing.
5. Clamp rail 2 (see fig. Detaching the steering rod from the rack (without amplifier)) steering mechanism in a vise with soft metal lining so that the teeth of the rack do not fall into the vise.
6. Disconnect the steering rod 4 from the rack 2 by unscrewing the cap nut 3.
7. Measure the length of the old rod. This will help when installing the tip on a new rod to approximately maintain the convergence of the wheels.
8. Unscrew tip 1 (see fig. Steering gear parts (steering without power steering)), remove the protective cover from the link 6 4. Replace the protective cover that is torn, cracked or has lost its elasticity.
9. Install a protective cover 4 with clamps 3 and 5 on the new rod 6 and screw the tip 1 onto the rod in accordance with the previously measured size.
Attention! Use protective boot clamps only of original design and production of well-known manufacturers.
10. Connect the tie rod to the rack by screwing the cap nut onto the rack.
11. Clear places of landing of a protective cover 4 on a case of the steering mechanism and draft.
12. Lubricate the grooves where the protective boot fits with grease.
13. Install the protective cover 4 on the seats, making sure that it is not twisted.
14. Attach protective cover 4 (see fig. Fastening of a protective cover of the steering mechanism) new clamps 2 using special pliers 3.
15. Install the steering gear to the vehicle. At the same time, correct the position of the rod end when connecting it to the swing arm.
16. Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment.
The tightening torque for fastening the steering rod to the steering rack is 80 N·m.
