Attention! Both springs of the vehicle's rear suspension must be of the same hardness group and must be replaced as a set on both sides of the rear suspension. Spring stiffness groups are marked with paint. Install a new spring with the same markings that were on the old one. If the markings on the old spring are not visible, consult a Skoda workshop.
1. Install the ties on the spring to be removed 31 (see fig. Rear suspension parts with drum brakes) and squeeze it a little. In the absence of a tie, the spring can be tied in a compressed state with a strong wire.
2. Unscrew the bolt 23 of the lower mounting of the shock absorber, holding the nut 22 from turning with another wrench. Remove bolt 23, thereby disconnecting the lower end of the shock absorber.
3. Hang the rear of the car from the side of the spring to be replaced until the wheel is off the ground and place the body on a secure support.
4. Squeezing down the beam arm 18 of the rear suspension within the elasticity of the rubber-metal support 17, remove the spring from the vehicle.
5. Carefully release the spring by removing the ties from it.
6. Remove the top 32 and bottom 27 gaskets, if they remain, respectively, on the body (in the wheel well) and on the rear suspension beam.
7. Replace gaskets 27 and 32 that are badly deformed or have lost their elasticity.
8. Inspect the removed spring. If the coils of the spring are deformed, cracked or with traces of contact, replace the spring.
9. Repair, if necessary, a damaged lacquer coating of the spring.
10. Before installing the spring, the upper and lower gaskets on it should be placed so that the ends of the extreme turns are in the grooves of the gaskets, secure the gaskets with insulating tape or tape.
11. Compress the spring with zip ties and install it to the vehicle in reverse order. At the same time, replace the bolt 23 with the nut 22 of the lower shock absorber mounting with new ones. The head of the lower mounting bolt must point towards the inside of the vehicle during installation. Make the final tightening of bolt 23 with the vehicle on the ground. The tightening torque of the shock absorber lower mounting bolt is 40 Nm, then tighten it another 90°.
