Description and characteristics of Skoda Kodiaq cars

Skoda Kodiaq - mid size crossover (J segment) Czech car manufacturer «Skoda Auto», which is produced from 2016 to the present. Name «Kodiaq» derived from «Kodiak bear», which means the largest brown bear that lives in Alaska. The engine is located in front transversely, the drive is full (4x4) or cheaper front wheel drive models. The body is made in the form of a five-door SUV with five or seven seats for passengers.

First generation (2016-present time)

The car was presented at the Paris Motor Show in September 2016, sales began in October. Based on a modular platform «MQB», which is used for crossovers «Volkswagen Tiguan» and «SEAT Tarraco». Is the first car in the line «Skoda», Surround Cameras, Traffic Sign Recognition, Trailer Towing Assist and Predictive Pedestrian Protection. Cars with increased ground clearance «Kodiaq Scout» and more sporty «Kodiaq Sportline» were shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017. Trim and trim levels were called «Active», «Ambition», «Style», «Laurin & Klement» and «RS». The dimensions of the crossover were as follows - wheelbase 2791 mm, length 4697 mm, width 1882 mm, height 1676 mm and curb weight 1452-1686 kg. The assembly of the first generation Kodiak was carried out in the Czech Republic, India, China, Russia and Ukraine.

Petrol engines are represented by three 1.4-liter four-cylinder models (1395 cm³, EA211, TSI, 148 hp), 1.5 liters (1498 cm³, EA211 evo, TSI, 148 hp) and 2.0 liters (1984 cm³, EA888, TSI, 177/188 hp). The diesel engine is also a 2.0-liter four-cylinder (1968 cm³, EA288, TDI, 148/188/239 hp). All engines have four valves per cylinder and are turbocharged. Three types of gearbox were installed - a six-speed manual, six- or seven-speed dual-clutch robotic (DSG). Torque drive is carried out to the front wheels or all-wheel drive version with a clutch «Haldex».

In November 2016 the magazine «Top Gear» named «Skoda Kodiaq» the best family car in the world. This crossover won the title «Car of the Year» 2017 in the Czech Republic, Poland and Bulgaria, «SUV of the Year» in China and France, as an all-wheel drive vehicle in Germany, and also received an award «Red Dot Design Award» for 2017.
