The front elastic assembly, as already mentioned, is a mounting unit that combines a telescopic shock absorber with a modern spring and a helical spring. Since the front elastic assembly forms the pivot of the steering knuckle, in the lower part it is fixedly fixed in the bushing of the stub axle, and at the top part of it is an axial bearing, which allows the top to be rotated relative to the holder in the body frame.
In the lower part there is a cylindrical casing of the front telescopic shock absorber with a welded bracket and a hole in it, inserted into the socket formed in the casting of the front wheel hub. The bracket is inserted into the socket split and a bolt is threaded into it (M10x1.25x65), which compresses the socket and at the same time forms a stopper for the shock absorber body.
In the upper part, an anti-dust cuff is put on the shock absorber rod, a modern spring (ELASTIGRAN product), then a plate for supporting the helical spring, an axial bearing, then a plate and a rubber element designed to support the recess in the body. These parts are tightened with a nut screwed onto the stem. The elastic unit assembled in this way is inserted from below into the recess of the body for support.
Another plate is put on top of the stem. It rests on a hole in the body. The specified plate is fixed with a nut screwed onto the thread of the protruding end of the shock absorber rod, and thus the elastic assembly is fixed at the top point.
The front elastic assembly can be dismantled from the car entirely without the use of tools. However, to disassemble the elastic assembly itself, you will need a special tool from the ŠKODA service kit.
For different versions and modifications of Skoda Octavia cars, springs and shock absorbers of different parameters are assembled, and in addition and in different combinations according to the type of engine used, as well as equipment. The shock absorber has its code designation, on the spring the type is indicated by colored stripes.
