Note: The auxiliary air heater element -Z35- is only fitted to certain vehicles. The auxiliary air heater element -Z35- can be hot - risk of burns! Wait until it has cooled down before removing heating element -Z35-.
Remove the left side trim of the center console. Remove the leg airbag. Remove left footwell air duct. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
Loosen nut -3- (9 Nm), remove earth wire -4-. Disconnect connector -2-; to do this, slide lock -5- and unlock towards inside. Remove screws -arrows- (2 Nm). Remove heating element -Z35- pos. -1- from heater -6-.
Installation
Installation in reverse order.
Note: Observe the correct position of the ground wire -4- (see fig.) and tightening torque of the nut, -3- (9 Nm).
Follow the procedure for connecting the negative battery terminal.
Checking heater element for auxiliary air heater -Z35-
The outside temperature is below 19°C. The coolant temperature is below 80°C. Interior temperature approx. 20°C. The battery voltage is above 12 V. The load on the generator is not more than 50%. Engine speed over 450 rpm. The temperature regulator is set to the extreme position "heating" (Climatronic - high mode selected). Remove the left side trim of the center console. With a 100 A clamp tester (-VAS 5051B/7-) measure the current consumed on the mass wire -1 - -arrow-.
- Low heating power = 30 A
- Average heating power = 60 A
- Large heating power = 80 A
Removal and installation of a branch pipe of an air intake
Remove the front panel center support. Remove cabin filter. Disconnect connector -4- and unclip wiring harness. Loosen the heater and air conditioner module and pull it forward slightly. Remove screws -2- (1 Nm). Release lock -1- -arrow A- and turn air intake -3- upwards -arrow B-.
