Attention! When the engine is off, the brake and steering boosters do not work. Never let the vehicle roll with the engine off. Before driving through a water-filled area, the START-STOP system must be switched off. If during the STOP phase in a vehicle with a manual or automatic gearbox (selector in position P) the driver's seat belt is unfastened for more than 30 seconds, or the driver's door is opened, the engine will need to be started manually. After manually starting the engine of a vehicle with a manual gearbox, the engine will be automatically switched off only after the minimum distance necessary for the operation of the start-stop system has been covered. If, on a vehicle with automatic transmission, after reversing, the selector lever is set to position D/S or N, the vehicle must first reach a speed above 10 km/h in order to automatically switch off the engine again. Changes in the outside temperature can cause a noticeable change in the inside temperature of the battery even after a few hours. If the car is left outdoors for a long time at a negative temperature or under direct sunlight, then within a few hours the internal temperature of the battery may reach a value at which the START-STOP system works normally. When the Climatronic climate control system is in automatic mode, under certain conditions, the engine may not turn off automatically.
Switching off/starting the engine
Instrument cluster display: engine shutdown (phase stop)
Vehicles with manual gearbox
Stop car (apply the parking brake if necessary). Place the shift lever in neutral position. Release the clutch pedal. The engine will automatically turn off (phase stop). The counter icon appears on the display.
Press the clutch pedal.
The engine will start automatically (START phase). The control icon goes out.
Vehicles with automatic transmission
Stop the vehicle and keep the brake pedal depressed. The engine will automatically turn off. The counter appears on the display. pictogram. Release the brake pedal. The engine will start automatically. The control icon goes out.
The engine is turned off in the selector positions P, D / S, N, as well as in Tiptronic mode. In selector position P, the engine remains switched off even after releasing the brake pedal. The engine starts when the gas pedal is pressed, or when the selector is moved to another driving position and the brake pedal is released. If the selector is moved to position R during the stop phase, the engine starts again. The system recognizes the movement of the vehicle by a large angle of rotation of the steered wheels or when selecting the position of the selector P (e.g. when parking), and the engine does not automatically turn off. When the vehicle is moving at low speed (e.g. in a traffic jam or when turning) and after lightly pressing the brake pedal, it stops, the engine does not automatically turn off. When the brake pedal is pressed hard, the engine is automatically switched off,
Conditions required for system operation
Instrument cluster display: engine shutdown function not currently available
The START-STOP system is very complex. Some processes are difficult to control without special equipment.
Engine won't turn off
Before each Stop phase, the system checks the fulfillment of certain conditions. The engine does not turn off, for example, in the following situations: the engine has not yet warmed up to the minimum temperature required for the start-stop system to work; the interior temperature set for the air conditioner or heater has not yet been reached; outside temperature is very low or very high; the heated windshield is on; Intensive windscreen defrost mode is on (Climatronic) or defrost windshield defroster with maximum air temperature setting (semi-automatic climate control); the parking aid or the parking pilot is activated; low battery charge; the stationary vehicle is on a steep ascent or descent; engine idle speed is too high. The counter appears on the display. icon .
The engine will start automatically
During the stop phase, the engine is started without the active participation of the driver, for example, in the following cases: the vehicle rolls down, for example, on a slope; the difference between the temperature set for the air conditioner or heater and the temperature in the passenger compartment is too large; the heated windshield is on; Intensive windscreen defrost mode is on (СIimatgonic) or defrost windshield defroster with maximum air temperature setting (semi-automatic climate control); the brake pedal has been pressed several times (brake pressure low); low battery charge; current consumption is too high.
Manual system on/off
Control key for start-stop system
Activation/deactivation
Press the key
When the start-stop mode is off, the indicator in the key lights up.
Note: If the system is switched off during the Stop phase, the engine starts automatically. When the Eco driving mode is selected with the system switched off, the system is automatically activated.
Display instructions
«M» Start the engine manually! «S» START THE ENGINE MANUALLY.
The note is displayed to the driver if the conditions for automatic engine start are not met during the stop phase. The engine must be started manually.
«M» Error: start-stop system. «3» ERROR START-STOP.
There is a malfunction in the start-stop system. Contact the service station.
