Remove intermediate shaft sprocket -1-.
Remove screw -2- for balancer shaft inlet camshaft and remove balancer shaft.
Installation
Lubricate balance shaft bearings -arrows- with engine oil.
Fit balancer shaft for inlet camshaft and tighten screw -2-. Replace O-ring -1- and lubricate with engine oil. Lubricate the support pin with engine oil and slide into the cylinder block. so that the dowel pin -arrow- engages in the hole in the cylinder block.
Carefully! Be sure to replace the intermediate gear of the balancing aal. Otherwise, the gear will run out - damage to the engine! The new intermediate shaft sprocket is varnished. Soon, this varnish will wear off, and the backlash of the teeth will automatically adjust due to this.
Mark with paint -arrow- the side surfaces of the two adjacent teeth of the countershaft gear. Push in the countershaft gear, the marking on the balancer shaft must be between the marks on the sides of the teeth of the countershaft gear. Insert new screw -1- for intermediate shaft gear and tighten as follows.
- 1. Pre-tighten to 10 Nm.
- 2. Rotate the countershaft gear. The countershaft gear must not have play. Otherwise loosen and tighten again.
- 3. Then tighten to 25 Nm.
- 4. Use a hard wrench to tighten by 90° (¼ vol.).
Check the marking on the intermediate shaft/balance shaft gear -arrow-.
Installation in reverse order. Install the balance shaft drive chain. Install the camshaft drive chain. Install the lower timing chain cover. Install the upper timing chain cover. Replace the O-ring on the intake camshaft balancer shaft. Install the water pump drive toothed belt.
