Remove damper -3-. Remove the balance shaft drive chain.
Installation
Turn intermediate shaft sprocket and balancing shaft with marks facing each other -arrow-; do not loosen screw -1-.
Note: The marks only overlap every 7 revolutions due to the gear ratio.
Lay the drive chain of the balancer shafts on their sprockets; the colored links of the drive chain -arrows- must be opposite the markings on the sprockets.
Install drive chain guide shoe and tighten screw -3-. Install the balancer shaft drive chain tensioner -1-. Install the camshaft drive chain.
Chain Length Check
Remove plug -arrow-.
Turn pulley in direction of engine rotation until chain tensioner piston is extended as far as possible in -direction of arrow-. Count the visible piston teeth.
Note: All piston teeth to the right of the chain tensioner guard -arrow- are considered visible. If 7 or more teeth are visible: Replace the camshaft drive target. If 6 or fewer teeth are visible, do not replace the drive chain.
Replace plug.
