Removing
1. Remove the outer constant velocity joint from the wheel hub (see the relevant section in chapter Drive shafts).
2. Connect the lower arm of the front suspension to the ball joint. You can use old fastening nuts.
3. Loosen the fastening nut (arrow B) anti-roll bar to shock absorber strut as shown in the figure below.
4. Disconnect the ABS front wheel speed sensor harness from the shock absorber strut as shown in the figure below.
5. Loosen the fastening nut (1) ball joint of the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Leave the fastening nut screwed onto the hinge pin for a few turns.
6. Using a special puller (3287A), press the tie rod end joint out of the steering knuckle (2), as shown in the figure below.
7. Unscrew finally the nut that secures the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
8. To take a tip of steering draft from a rotary fist.
9. Suspend, using a suitable piece of wire, the tie rod end.
10. Install a special hydraulic jack with a base plate under the front suspension knuckle.
11. Unscrew the fastening nut and remove the adjusting bolt connecting the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle, as shown in the figure below.
12. Install special tool (3424) into the steering knuckle bracket to spread the ends as shown in the figure below.
13. Rotate the special tool head 90 degrees using a ratchet wrench. Remove the key from the head.
14. Press the brake disc with your hands towards the shock absorber. Otherwise, the shock absorber tube will rotate in the steering knuckle bracket.
15. Pull the steering knuckle down from the shock absorber and lower it down together with the hydraulic jack. Release the shock absorber from the steering knuckle.
16. Fix the steering knuckle on the hydraulic jack support.
17. Remove a special hydraulic jack from under the car.
18. Using a socket wrench and a special tool (SW 21-MR 6-427), unscrew the nut securing the shock absorber to the body glass, as shown in the figure below.
19. Remove from the glass and remove the shock absorber assembly.
Installation
1. Install the shock absorber assembly into the body glass.
2. Install and tighten the shock absorber strut-to-body assembly nut to the required tightening torque.
3. Substitute a special hydraulic jack under the steering knuckle of the front suspension.
4. Insert the shock absorber into the steering knuckle bracket.
5. Raise the steering knuckle assembly together with the hydraulic jack until the shock strut mounting bolt is accessible.
Attention. Eliminate excessive pressure on the steering knuckle from the side of the hydraulic jack when it is installed on the shock absorber strut.
6. Press the brake disc with your hands towards the shock absorber and make sure that the shock absorber is not caught in the steering knuckle bracket.
7. Remove special tool (3424), shown in the figure below.
8. Install the connecting bolt. Then install and tighten with the required tightening torque a new fastening nut (arrow), as shown in the figure below.
9. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Install and tighten a new self-locking fastening nut.
10. Fix the front wheel speed sensor wiring harness to the shock absorber strut.
11. Connect the anti-roll bar to the shock absorber (arrow B), as shown in the figure below. Tighten the strut mounting nut to the required torque.
12. Unscrew, shown in the figure below by arrows, the nuts securing the lower arm of the front suspension to the ball joint, as shown in the figure below.
13. Install the constant velocity joint in the front wheel hub (for details, see the relevant section in chapter Drive shafts).
14. Carry out a road test.
15. Check and, if necessary, adjust the angles of the steered wheels.
