Removing
1. Remove the front wheels.
2. Loosen the fastening nuts (arrows) ball joint to the lever, as shown in the figure below.
3. Pull down and disconnect the front suspension arm from the ball joint.
4. Install a special puller on the ball joint, as shown in the figure below.
Note.
- To prevent damage to the threaded part of the ball joint pin, leave the nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle screwed two or three turns, as shown in the figure below.
- When pressing out the ball joint, it is necessary to be extremely careful, since after removing the support from the steering knuckle, the puller may fall.
5. Press the ball joint out of the steering knuckle.
Installation
Note.
- Check the technical condition of the contact surfaces.
- When installing the ball joint, make sure it is installed correctly. in accordance with the marks applied to it.
- If the ball joint is installed incorrectly, it is possible to violate the settings of the angles of installation of the steered wheels, in particular the camber of the front wheels.
- Always after disassembly, it is necessary to replace the nuts securing the drive shafts to the wheel hubs.
- R - Right side
- L - Left side
- 3 - for vehicles without power steering (not relevant)
- 4 for vehicles with power steering
- «Arrows» - directed in the direction of the vehicle (with power steering)
Example. Left ball joint.
The inscription L4 with an arrow indicates that the ball joint is installed on the left side for vehicles with power steering.
R3 - a label indicating that the support is installed on the right side on cars without power steering (not relevant)
Example. Right ball joint.
The inscription R4 with an arrow indicates that the ball joint is installed on the right side for vehicles with power steering.
L3 - a label indicating that the support is installed on the left side on vehicles without power steering (not relevant)
1. Install the ball joint on the steering knuckle. Install and tighten a new nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Note. When tightening the fastening nut, be extremely careful. not to damage the ball joint boot.
2. Connect the lower front suspension arm to the ball joint, then install and tighten the fastening nuts to the required torque (arrows), as shown in the figure below.
3. Install the front wheel. Install and tighten the front wheel nuts to the required torque.
4. Check the angles of the front wheels. Adjust the front wheel alignment if necessary.
