The catalytic converter is a highly efficient element of the exhaust gas toxicity reduction system (OG) and included in the exhaust system. Inside the working element of the converter, the exhaust gas is afterburned at a high temperature in order to reduce the level of toxic components in them.
particulate filter (DPF) used in the exhaust tract of some diesel models to remove soot from exhaust gases. Diesel particulate filter models have the PR number 7GG, 7MB or 7MG on the vehicle data sticker. Periodically, the filter is cleaned by burning the soot accumulated in it (regeneration process), which is accompanied by a significant heating of the filter. The regeneration process takes place automatically. However, in some cases it may be necessary to provide conditions under which filter regeneration occurs. To indicate the need to clean the filter, the corresponding K / L in the instrument cluster is intended (see Section 13). A detailed description of the particulate filter is given in Part B of Chapter 4.
When the engine is running, the components of the exhaust system can heat up to very high temperatures - try not to touch the heated elements and do not park the car on areas covered with flammable objects (fallen leaves, dry grass, debris, etc.).
Make sure the engine settings and adjustments are correct. Deviations in the operating parameters of the ignition, fuel injection and engine management systems can lead to a dangerous over-rich air-fuel mixture and overheating of the catalytic converter. If a misfire occurs, the operation of the car should be suspended until the causes of the malfunction are eliminated.
Unburned misfire fuel from the combustion chamber enters the converter, where it can ignite easily. For the same reason, you should avoid starting the engine by towing or pushing, it is more correct to use an auxiliary battery. Do not crank the engine for a long time, do not try to start the engine with the spark plug power disconnected.
Monitor fuel consumption, try not to run out of fuel, usually associated with misfiring (see previous paragraph).
