Checking the condition of the anthers of the CV joints of the drive shafts

1. Anthers of drive shafts are very important elements, because. they protect the constant velocity joints (SHRUS) from contact with dirt, water and other foreign bodies that cause damage. External contamination of anthers with oil and grease can lead to premature failure of the material of the anthers, so it is recommended to wash them periodically with soap and water.

2. Inspect the anthers (see resist. illustration) for breaks and cracks, as well as loose clamps. In case of cracks or leakage of lubricant, the dust boot must be replaced (see chapter 8).



3. At the same time, check the general condition of the CV joints by holding the shaft and at the same time trying to turn the wheel. Try again while holding the inner CV joint and turning the shaft. Any noticeable play indicates wear on the pivot, wear in the shaft slots, or a loose shaft lock nut.
