Skoda Yeti (2009-2017)
Skoda Yeti - compact crossover (SUV, J-segment), produced from 2009 to 2017 by the Czech automobile manufacturer «Skoda Auto» codenamed «Typ 5L». This is the company's first entry into the SUV market. In 2009, the popular magazine «Top Gear» called him «family car of the year». Based on a modular platform «Volkswagen Group A5» (PQ35), which has been used for a wide range of compact car companies «Audi», «Seat» and «Volkswagen». The assembly was carried out in the Czech Republic, India, Kazakhstan, China, Russia and Ukraine. In total, more than 580 thousand of these crossovers were produced.
At the Geneva Motor Show in 2005, the company «Škoda» introduced a concept car in the compact SUV category with the name «Yeti». Four years later, a serial «Yeti» at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The car stood out with a practical square design.
The body of the car is load-bearing and is made in the form of a five-door CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle or crossover). The wheelbase is 2578 mm, length 4222 mm, width 1793 mm, height 1691 mm and curb weight 1345-1355 kg. Despite its small size, the interior is quite spacious, also thanks to the reconfigurable rear seats «VarioFlex». The front passenger seat can be folded forward to a horizontal position to carry long items. The drag coefficient is 0.37. The engine is located transversely in front, the drive is full (4x4) or cheaper front wheel drive.
Gasoline engines were the following volumes and characteristics:

- 1.2 liters (1197 cm3, I4, CYVB (EA211), 16V, DOHC, turbo, 108 hp)
- 1.4 liters (1395 cm3, I4, CAXA/CAXC (EA111), 16V, DOHC, turbo, 121/123 hp)
- 1.4 liters (1395 cm3, I4, CDGA (EA211), 16V, DOHC, turbo, 148 hp)
- 1.6 liters (1598 cm3, I4, CWVA (EA211), 8V, SOHC, 107 hp)
- 1.8 liters (1798 cm3, I4, CDAB/CDAA (EA888), 16V, DOHC, turbo, 150/158 hp)
Diesel engines were all four-cylinder turbocharged fuel system «Common Rail» the following volumes:
- 1.6 liters (1598 cm3, I4, CAYC (EA189), 16V, DOHC, 103 hp)
- 2.0 liters (1968 cm3, I4, CFHA/CFHF (EA189), 16V, DOHC, 107 hp)
- 2.0 liters (1968 cm3, I4, EA288, 16V, DOHC, 107/ 148 hp)
- 2.0 liters (1968 cm3, I4, CFHC (EA189), 16V, DOHC, 138 hp)

The gearbox was a five- or six-speed manual, as well as a six- or seven-speed robotic automatic (DSG). All-wheel drive variants used a multi-plate clutch «Haldex Traction» fourth generation for rear-wheel drive.
Modern active safety systems included an electronic stabilization program (ESP) with anti-lock braking system (ABS), hydraulic brake booster (HBA) and traction control (ASR). The car was equipped with a maximum of nine airbags - dual front, front side, rear side, side curtain and driver's knee airbag.
European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) gave the maximum five-star safety rating to the 2009 Yeti. See the table for detailed results.
In most European countries, trim levels were called «Experience», «Ambition» and «Track». Standard and optional equipment included bi-xenon headlights with swiveling modules, front and rear proximity sensors, automatic parking assistance, tire pressure monitoring, a navigation system with a large 6.5-inch color touch screen and a 30 GB hard drive. electrically adjustable seat and mirrors, rain sensor, heated front seats and a large double-deck panoramic sunroof.
In 2013, the model was updated, which was shown at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 2013. Changed the front and rear bumpers, head and fog lights, grille, steering wheel, and updated clutch «Haldex» up to the fifth generation. An urban version of the car appeared with body-colored bumpers and moldings.
The successors of the Yeti are a compact crossover «Skoda Karoq» and subcompact crossover «Skoda Kamiq» (see below).
During the production period of the Skoda Yeti, its main classmates and competitors were Chery Tiggo, Citroen C4 Aircross, Ford Ecosport, Geely Boyue, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Venue, Kia Soul, Kia Sportage, Lada XRAY, Peugeot 2008, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi ASX, Nissan Juke, Nissan Qashqai, Opel Mokka, Renault Captur, Renault Duster, SsangYong Actyon, Suzuki SX4, Suzuki Vitara, Toyota C-HR and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Skoda Karoq (2017 - present time)
Skoda Karoq - compact crossover (J-segment, SUV) which is produced by a Czech company «Skoda Auto» from 2017 to present. Is the official successor to the crossover «Skoda Yeti», produced since 2009. Officially announced and shown in May 2017 in Sweden, production began in June at a factory near the village of Kvasiny (Czech), and official sales in autumn 2017. Is a related model of the Italian crossover «SEAT Ateca». Name «Karoq» comes from the Aleuts, the native inhabitants of the Alaskan island of Kodiak and was created using a combination of Aleut words «Kaa'Raq» and «Ruq», which translate as car and arrow.
Compared to its predecessor «Skoda Yeti» this car is much larger and is 4382 mm long, 1841 mm wide, 1603 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2638 mm and a curb weight of 1340 kg. Transverse front engine, front wheel drive or all wheel drive (4x4). Vehicle is technically identical «SEAT Ateca», but the manufacturers tried to uniqueize the design as much as possible. «Karoq» won the title «Car of the Year 2018» in the Czech Republic in January 2018.
Karok comes with two diesel and two petrol engines. Petrol 1.0 liter (999 cm3, I3, EA211, TSI, turbo, 113 hp) and 1.5 liters (1498 cm3, I4, EA211 evo, TSI, turbo, 147 hp), as well as diesel engines with a volume of 1.6 liters (1598 cm3, EA288, TDI, turbo, 113 hp) and 2.0 liters (1968 cm3, EA288, TDI, turbo, 147 hp). Transmission six-speed manual or seven-speed robotic (DSG).
In July 2018, it was presented «Karoq Scout», and in August a sports version appeared «Karoq Sportline».
Skoda Kamiq (2019 - present time)
Skoda Kamiq - subcompact crossover (SUV, J-segment), which is produced by the Czech automaker «Skoda Auto» from 2019 to present. The international version was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019, and sales started in September 2019. The engine is located transversely in front, front-wheel drive. Platform based «MQB A0», which is also used for «Seat Arona» and «Volkswagen T-Cross». Body in the form of a five-door SUV with a length of 4241 mm, a width of 1793 mm, a height of 1531 mm and a wheelbase of 2651 mm. In Group «Volkswagen» this car is similar in size to «Audi Q2» and «VW T-Roc».
Joint venture in China «Shanghai Volkswagen» also produces «Skoda Kamiq», which is based on the platform «PQ34» and which was presented in April 2018 at the Beijing International Auto Show and began selling in June 2019. This version is slightly larger than the international one and its length is 4390 mm, width 1781 mm, height 1593 mm, wheelbase 2610 mm.
Turbocharged direct injection petrol engines available in two 1.0 liter models (999 cm3, I3, EA211, TSI, 95/115 hp) and 1.5 liters (1498 cm3, i4, EA211 evo, TSI, 150 hp). The diesel engine is also turbocharged with a volume of 1.6 liters (1598 cm3, I4, EA288, TDI, 115 hp). Transmission six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic robotic (DSG).
