Removing
1. Working in the salon, remove the shield (if available) from the baffle at the lower end of the steering column, then loosen and remove the pinch bolt securing the universal joint of the steering column base to the steering gear shaft (Chapter 14).
2. Disconnect both ball joints of the steering rods from the steering knuckles (Chapter 20).
3. Working inside the engine compartment, unscrew the steering gear (see photo). Remove the air filter assembly (Section 4), if you want to improve access.
4. Remove the steering gear from the vehicle.
5. Check the condition of the mounting sleeves. Replace if necessary.
Installation
6. Install in the reverse order of removal paying attention to the following.
- A) Set the steering rack exactly in the middle of the stroke, and lubricate all components (Chapter 19).
- h) When installing rubber bushings, use liquid soap or Vaseline. Tighten the mounting bolts evenly with a tightening torque specified specifications.
- c) Next, install in the reverse order. Tighten all nuts and bolts with a tightening torque specified specifications.
- d) Check wheel alignment as soon as possible (Chapter 21).
