1. The battery is located at the rear of the engine compartment on the left side.
2. The electrolyte level should be maintained just above the top of the cells. If refilling is necessary, unscrew caps and add distilled water to each cell (photo).
3. Periodically inspect the battery for damage such as cracks in the case or caps.
4. Check the tightness of the battery wire clamps, and check each cable along the entire length for cracks and frayed conductors.
5. If there is corrosion (in the form of a white fluffy growth), disconnect the cables from the battery terminals, clean them with a small wire brush, and then reinstall them. Corrosion can be minimized by coating the clips and terminals with petroleum jelly.
6. Make sure the battery pad is in good condition and the mounting clip is securely tightened.
7. Corrosion on the battery pad, mounting clip, and battery itself can be removed with an aqueous solution of baking soda. Afterwards, thoroughly rinse all treated areas with clean water.
8. Metal parts of the car that are damaged by corrosion should be coated with a zinc primer and then painted.
9. Further information regarding battery, charging and jump start can be found in Section 12.
