25. The exhaust system is checked on a cold engine. For ease of inspection, raise the vehicle and support it on axle stands so that all exhaust system components are visible and accessible.
26. Check the exhaust pipe and connections for signs of leakage, corrosion or damage. Make sure all brackets and fasteners are in good condition and that all nuts and bolts are tight. A leak at any of the connections or elsewhere in the system will usually show up as a black sooty spot near the leak.
27. Rattles and other noises are often observed in the exhaust system, especially brackets and fasteners. Try to move pipes and mufflers. If components come into contact with the body or suspension parts, secure the system with new fasteners. Otherwise separate connections (if it is possible) and wrap the roughs as needed with heat-resistant material to select the play.
28. Start the engine at idle, then cover the exhaust pipe outlet with a cloth and check the entire length of the system for exhaust leaks.
29. Finally, lower the car to the ground.
30. The state of the inside of the exhaust pipe can determine the condition of the engine. If there is soot, the engine needs to be repaired. If the pipe is black and smoky, the engine needs to be adjusted, including a complete inspection and adjustment of the fuel system.
