Note: Given that. If special tools are required to remove and inspect the head, it is recommended that you purchase a new or remanufactured component from an engine remanufacturer. In the end, this can come out cheaper than sorting out the head yourself.
1. Remove the cylinder head as described in Chapter 6 of Section 2A.
2. Using a puller, compress the valve springs in turn, and remove the crackers. Then release the puller and remove the spring seat, outer and inner springs.
3. If, with the puller installed, the spring seat cannot be released to gain access to the valve cotters, gently hit the seat with a mallet.
4. Remove the inner and outer spring seats from the valve guide, then use pliers to carefully remove the valve stem seal.
5. Get the valve through the combustion chamber.
6. It is very important to store each valve together with cotters, springs and their supports, and in the correct sequence. if they are to be used again. To do this, place the valve assemblies in separate labeled polyethylene bags or appropriately sized boxes (see illustration).
