Removing
1. Working in the engine compartment, turn the clutch adjusting nut counterclockwise to obtain maximum cable play.
2. While working in the cabin, move the carpet floor away from the top end of the clutch pedal to access the end of the cable.
3. Depress the locking bracket and separate the cable from the upper end of the pedal.
4. Using pliers, unhook the spring from the clutch pedal.
5. To get the space required to remove the clutch pedal, you need to lower the steering column (see Chapter 14 Section 10).
6. Remove the mounting bracket from the right end of the pedal pivot. Move the clutch pedal to the left to disengage it from the bracket and slide the pedal out from under the dashboard (see photo). Note that the clutch pedal pivot is also the pivot point for the brake pedal. Therefore, if the bushing is to be removed, insert a suitable screwdriver into the right end of the mounting bracket to hold the brake pedal in position.
Installation
7. Install in the reverse order of removal, applying a light coat of multi-purpose grease to the pivot shaft and pedal bushing. Finally, adjust the length of the clutch cable as described in Section 1.
