Castle assembly
Note. You will need new shear screws during assembly.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Follow the procedures in paragraphs 1 to 5 of Section Removal and installation of a steering column.
3. Turn out the top bolts of fastening of a steering column (try to remember the installation positions of the spacers and rubber pads). Remove the support clamp.
4. Turn out the bottom bolts of fastening of a column, remove rubber pillows and remote washers, then slightly lower a column for the purpose of providing access to assemblage of the lock.
5. Remembering the order of connecting the connectors, disconnect the electrical wiring from the lock. On models equipped with an immobilizer, carefully release the sensor ring from the lock housing and move it away from the steering column.
6. Using a hammer and a suitable drift, knock out the heads of the tie bolts securing the lock casing around the perimeter, loosening the bolts so that they can be turned out by hand. Having unscrewed the bolts, remove the clamp and separate the lock assembly from the steering column.
7. If necessary, the casing of the lock cylinder can be removed from the mounting collar by removing the shear bolt.
Installation
1. If required, fit the lock cylinder housing into the mounting collar and install a new shear bolt, tightening it lightly at this stage.
2. Get the lock assembly to its regular place on the steering column. Install the clamp and install new shear bolts.
3. Tighten both bolts evenly in several steps. Check the assembly for proper functioning, then tighten the bolts until their heads are sheared.
4. In accordance with the marking applied during dismantling, connect the wiring to the lock. If equipped, snap the immobilizer sensor ring into place.
5. Having followed the correct installation of the spacers and rubber pads, seat the steering column on the lower supports. Screw in the lower mounting bolts, then install the upper support clamp (re-check the correct assembly of the components) and tighten it with bolts. Make sure the speaker is in the correct position, then tighten all fasteners to the correct torque.
6. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of dismantling. Pay attention to the following points:
- a) Make sure that the electrical wiring is laid correctly and the harnesses are securely fastened in all provided intermediate clamps;
- b) The procedure for installing the steering wheel is described in Section Removal and installation of a steering wheel;
- c) Make sure there is a small gap between the steering wheel and the upper casing before installing the lower column casing. If necessary, correct the clearance by loosening the clamp on the steering column switch holder.
Ignition switch
Removing
1. Remove the lock assembly.
2. Turn out screws without heads and take assembly of the switch of ignition from a back part of a casing of the lock.
Installation
1. Make sure the switch is in the correct position and slide it into the lock case. After making sure that the switch is correctly engaged with the lock, finally seat the assembly in the casing.
2. Clean the threads of the fixing screws and coat them lightly with fresh locking compound. Screw the screws into the lock assembly and tighten them firmly.
3. Replace the lock assembly.
