Vehicle identification numbers

Product improvement is a continuous process of any in-line production. At the same time, with the exception of cases of major changes in the design of models coming off the assembly line, the details of the modification are not covered in the car's operating manual. However, the manufacturer draws up numbered lists of manufactured spare parts, which is why the information encoded in the vehicle identification numbers is of particular importance when purchasing such. When placing an order for the required spare part, try to provide the seller with as much information about your car as possible. Be sure to provide the model name, year of manufacture, as well as body and power unit numbers.



Five information plates with information of the following order are fixed on the hood lock panel of the front of the car:

• 1 - Inscription: "Attention! High voltage!". Observe safety precautions when working with the ignition system.
• 2, 3 - Information labels with information about VIN numbers, engine, date of manufacture, permissible loads on the front and rear axles, paint code, model modification, etc.
• 4 - Inscription: "Fan". Care must be taken when working near the fan impeller blades.
• 5 - The value of the basic installation angle of the head headlights

The chassis number is engraved on the flanging of the right wing mudguard in the vehicle's engine compartment and consists of 17 positions. The first three positions are information about the geographical area, country and manufacturer. The next six characters contain information about the modification, engine type, gearbox, final drive, etc. The tenth position is the model year code according to the VW classification from 1.09 to 31.09 (S - 1995, then alphabetically). Eleventh position - reserve. The last six digits are the serial number of the body.
