Warning! Do not forget that most automotive oils and fluids are highly toxic substances. Try not to allow liquids to come into contact with exposed areas of the body. If contact cannot be avoided, immediately rinse contaminated skin with plenty of water.
Note. Often, the source of a leak can be determined by the odor emitted by the leaking liquid. Some liquids have a characteristic color. Keep in mind that some of the leaks only show up when the engine is running.
Oil pan
Engine oil can leak through the oil pan drain plug...
Oil filter
... or through the junction of the oil filter with the engine block
Transmission oil
Transmission oil leaks can occur through the seals used to seal the inner ends of the drive shafts in the differential
Antifreeze
Coolant leaks usually show up as a white crystalline coating.
Brake fluid
The formation of drips on the inside of the wheels is almost certainly associated with brake fluid leaks.
Power steering fluid (PAS)
PAS fluid leaks can occur through the nipple connections of the hydraulic lines on the steering rack housing.
