In the absence of a stand, the engine can be mounted on a sturdy workbench, or directly on the garage floor - work carefully, trying not to hit the crankcase on hard surfaces.
When using a remanufactured complete unit, all accessories and attachments should be transferred to it. The components to be migrated include the following:
Gasoline engines
- a) steering pump (if equipped - see chapter Suspension and steering);
- b) A/C compressor (see chapter Cooling, heating systems);
- c) Generator (with support brackets) and starter (see chapter Engine electrical equipment);
- d) BB wires and components of the ignition system, including all sensors, distributor, spark plugs, etc., depending on the configuration (see chapter Engine electrical equipment);
- e) Power System Components (see chapter Supply system);
- f) All electrical sensors, sensors-switches and actuators, as well as the main braid of the engine wiring (see chapter Supply system, chapter Engine electrical equipment chapter Onboard electrical equipment);
- g) Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold (see chapter Supply system);
- h) Dipstick for measuring the level of impellent oil with a guide tube;
- i) Supports of the power unit;
- j) Flywheel;
- k) Clutch components (see chapter Clutch).
Diesel engines
- a) steering pump (if equipped - see Chapter Suspension and steering);
- b) A/C compressor (see chapter Cooling, heating systems);
- c) Generator (with support brackets) and starter (see chapter Engine electrical equipment);
- d) Glow Plugs/Preglow System Components (see chapter Engine electrical equipment);
- e) All components of the power system, including injection pump, sensors and actuators (see chapter Supply system);
- f) Vacuum pump for brake booster (see chapter Brake system);
- g) All electrical sensors, sensors-switches and actuators, as well as the main braid of the engine wiring (see chapter Supply system chapter Onboard electrical equipment);
- h) Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold (see the relevant Part of the Chapter Supply system);
- i) Dipstick for measuring the level of impellent oil with a guide tube;
- j) Supports of the power unit;
- k) Flywheel;
- l) Clutch components (see chapter Clutch).
Note. When removing attachments, pay attention to the smallest details of their installation that can be useful during assembly. Try to remember the installation positions of all gaskets, seals, spacers, pins, washers, bolts and other small parts.
In case of purchase of an incomplete set (cylinder block with crankshaft and piston group), it is also necessary to remove the cylinder head, oil pan with oil deflector, oil pump, timing belt / chain with covers, auxiliary drive belt, water pump, thermostat housing, cooling pipes, air cleaner housing and, if equipped, oil cooler from the old engine.
In preparation for a complete overhaul, the engine is disassembled in the following order:
- a) Inlet pipeline and exhaust manifold;
- b) Timing chain/belt with sprockets/gear wheels and tensioner;
- c) cylinder head;
- d) Oil pan;
- e) Oil pump;
- f) Assemblies of pistons with connecting rods;
- g) Crankshaft.
