Removing
1. Remove the timing belt and intermediate shaft gear.
2. Having measured the value of the longitudinal stroke of the shaft, evaluate its axial play. The dial gauge should be mounted on the cylinder block coaxially with the shaft, pressing the plunger against the end of the pin of the latter. Otherwise, the procedure is identical to that described for the camshaft. If the measurement result exceeds the specified Specifications limit value for the camshaft, replace the intermediate shaft.
3. Turn out fixing bolts and remove a flange of an intermediate shaft.
4. Remove a sealing ring and take an epiploon.
5. Remove the intermediate shaft from the cylinder block and check the condition of the drive gear at its end. In case of defects or signs of excessive wear of the teeth, the shaft will have to be replaced.
6. If there are leaks at the shaft seal, check the condition of the surface of the shaft journal.
Installation
1. Lubricate the journals and drive gear with oil, then carefully tuck the shaft into the cylinder block.
2. Press a new oil seal into the shaft flange seat. Insert a new O-ring into the groove on the inside of the flange.
3. Lubricate the inner lips of the stuffing box with clean engine oil and place the flange on the shaft journal. Make sure that the sealing ring is seated correctly, then screw in the mounting bolts and tighten them to the required torque. Check the freedom of rotation of the intermediate shaft.
4. Reinstall the intermediate shaft gear and tighten the bolt of its fastening with the required force.
